You are already looking ahead to the holiday season and, of course, the big kickoff on Small Business Saturday, which is Nov. 30 this year. But why stop there?

The American Independent Business Alliance (AMIBA) has created a Shop Indie Local Week to promote the benefits of post-Thanksgiving shopping at local businesses. The campaign includes Small Business Saturday but also features:

Plaid Friday, the day after Thanksgiving and the perfect antidote to Black Friday crowds. AMIBA encourages business owners and staff to wear plaid and incorporate plaid into displays and advertising.

Artists Sunday, which promotes purchases from local artists and artisans.

Cider Monday, a counter to Cyber Monday, aims to build awareness about the effects of online shopping on small local retailers, particularly the benefits of keeping shopping dollars in your own community.

Giving Tuesday, which urges people to give back and practice generosity in all forms.
