Press Release from Entryways.com

Cherry Hill, NJ, November 2019 — Entryways, a long-time purveyor of exceptional doormats, is pleased to unveil its sumptuous Entryways V&A Collection of doormats, debuting in January 2020.

All of these mats are inspired by beautiful artwork from England’s Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) — the world’s leading museum of art, design and performance.

Founded in 1852 in London during the reign of Queen Victoria to make works of art available to all, the museum’s 145 galleries display the finest examples of the decorative arts from textiles and ceramics to sculpture and photography. Designed in collaboration with the V&A, the seven new doormats in Entryways’ V&A Collection echo the colorful and captivating artistic splendor found within the museum.

“This Is the Cat,” featuring a regal feline in repose, takes its cue from a furnishing fabric called “The House that Jack Built” designed by architect-designer C.F.A. Voysey in 1929.

“Cranes,” with its two titular, welcoming white birds perched near a tree silhouetted by a setting sun, nods to a lovely 1883 Japanese hanging scroll, while the vivid flowering briar rose design found on the “Espalier” mat — in rich greens, pinks and yellows — is inspired by an early 20th-century Art Nouveau textile pattern.

Brilliant red poppies adorn the “Poppy Field” doormat, a visual ode to a British dress fabric designed in 1933. The intricate “Strawberry Thief,” with its mischievous birds — juicy berries dangling from their beaks — is inspired by one of the most iconic works of the 19th century by great champion of the Arts and Crafts Movement, William Morris, who based his design on the thrushes he saw stealing strawberries from the grounds of Kelmscott Manor, his Oxfordshire home.

The bold, kaleidoscopic motif featured on the “Art Deco” mat pays homage to some of the most fashionable French wallpaper and textile designs of the late 1920s and 30s. The powerful “Waves” design reflects iconic Japanese wave artwork found on 19th-century decorative fusuma paper housed at the V&A.

All seven doormats in Entryways’ V&A Collection are available in two sizes — 18” by 30” and 24” by 36”. Each Entryways mat is crafted from the best quality all-natural coir to meet the industry’s highest standards of durability, and they’re hand-stenciled with eco-friendly dyes for long-lasting vibrancy.

For more than 150 years, the V&A has been a place of discovery and cultural enrichment. With its new V&A Collection, Entryways is proud to offer doormats inspired by the museum’s magnificent collections so that you, your family, and your guests can enjoy such lovely, distinctive, and artistic designs at any entrance to your home.
